Birmingham team pioneers sunlight-driven 2D catalysts to break down toxic textile dyes and other industrial chemicals in wastewater
BIRMINGHAM — Researchers at the University of Birmingham have developed a sunlight-driven catalyst they say can sustainably break down toxic dyes and other industrial chemicals in wastewater.
The team used a mechanical, water-based process to create molecular-thin “2D” photocatalysts that accelerated the breakdown of model dye pollutants by up to 2.5 times compared to bulk materials.
