Africa’s secondhand clothing trade ‘structurally non-circular’

HIROSHIMA – New research has claimed that Africa’s secondhand clothing trade is structurally non-circular, with a major import-to-export imbalance that pushes environmental and socio-economic costs onto African countries.

The study says Africa has a consistent pattern of 15 times more imports than exports, while there exists a continent-wide export-import ratio of 18.
