Smart manufacturing manifesto targets waste

New IAF roadmap urges brands and manufacturers to shift from cost-cutting to shared productivity, capital efficiency and lower overproduction

ZEIST — The International Apparel Federation (IAF) has issued a new manifesto calling for apparel brands, retailers and manufacturers to move away from lowest-cost sourcing towards “end-to-end productivity” and shared value creation across supply chains.

Developed by IAF’s Business Innovation Committee, the document argues that fashion’s largest losses stem from overproduction, excess inventory and markdowns rather than factory unit costs.
