Bangladesh labour reforms under scrutiny

DHAKA — Bangladesh’s labour rights record has improved in global rankings after new laws lowered barriers to unionisation and extended legal protections to high‑risk sectors including the coiuntry's key ready‑made garment sector.

The IndustriALL global union says these gains are the result of years of pressure from Bangladeshi affiliates and international campaigns, but warns that implementation still lags on the ground, with widespread reports of weak inspections and obstacles to union registration.
