Bacteria-grown pigments target textile dyes

NEW YORK — Design and science company Oxman has unveiled an experimental textile project that aims to cultivate pigment-producing bacteria directly on fabric surfaces to generate colour through biological growth rather than conventional dyeing lines.

Entitled 'Vigils', the project explores colour “not as a finish added at the end of production, but as something that lives and grows within the material from the start”, according to Oxman.
