New silicon-based dyeing process could enable one-bath colouring of cotton and polyester/cotton blends, while cutting water, energy and electricity use
DALIAN / SHANGHAI – Researchers say they have achieved a “revolutionary” approach to colouring cotton and polyester/cotton blends with significant efficiency and environmental benefits.
It gets around the longstanding challenge posed by the alkaline conditions traditionally required for reactive dyeing of cotton, which often leads to hydrolysis and incompatibility with one-bath dyeing processes involving polyester.
