Textile mills face risk‑based testing

ZDHC will shake up textile wastewater oversight with a risk‑based regime, new water‑use benchmarks and tighter checks on high‑risk dischargers

Low risk facilities could skip one or more testing cycles, while high risk facilities may face more tests and random visits.

AMSTERDAM – The ZDHC is preparing a significant shift in how wastewater from textile wet‑processing sites is overseen, moving away from a default two tests per year towards a risk‑based approach that rewards high performers and focuses attention on the most problematic dischargers.

The proposals are revealed in the August issue of Ecotextile News in an exclusive interview with Stefan Seidel, senior director of climate and environmental impact at ZDHC.
