Manufacturers ‘unprepared for digital product passports’

Most garment makers admit they are not ready to provide the data needed for new digital product passports for textiles

TALLINN — Garment factories in key sourcing hubs are struggling to generate the life-cycle data needed to comply with forthcoming EU rules on digital product passports (DPPs) for textiles, a new study warns.

Researchers at the Stockholm Environment Institute Tallinn Centre and Estonian Academy of Arts surveyed 14 manufacturers in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey, all supplying European brands, alongside a detailed life-cycle assessment (LCA) case study for circular garments made for the Estonian team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
