Brussels clarifies rules for brand packaging

EU updates how brands should handle existing packaging stock under its new regulation, easing concerns over relabelling while tightening expectations on substances of concern

BRUSSELS – The European Commission has issued updated guidance on how companies should apply new rules under the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), days before the law starts to apply on 12th August 2026.

The second‑edition PPWR Frequently Asked Questions document, completed in March and updated today, spells out what brands, retailers and suppliers must do to bring transport and secondary packaging into line with the regulation.
