Textile fibre output deepens climate gap

Textile Exchange says rising fibre output and raw material emissions have left the sector further off course from its 2030 climate target, despite growing adoption of preferred materials and certification

BURBANK – Textile Exchange has released its 2025 Annual Report, revealing record global fibre production and related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions amid the first year of the organisation’s shift to its ‘Materials Matter’ certification system.

The textiles and apparel sector remains off track to cut emissions from fibre and raw materials by 45% by 2030 in line with the Paris Agreement, the report says.
