Researchers assess if gelatin, starch-derived cyclodextrin and natural dyes can reduce reliance on conventional textile finishing chemicals
CAIRO — A newly published study has examined a bio-based treatment for regenerated cellulose fabrics that combines natural colouration and functional finishing, aiming to reduce dependence on conventional textile chemicals.
Researchers at Egypt’s National Research Centre used gelatin and beta-cyclodextrin, a starch-derived carbohydrate, to modify the fabric surface before natural dyeing and treatment with natural oil.
