Bangladesh’s garment sector is turning to energy-saving technology as a worsening gas shortage forces factories to shut down, burn wood, run diesel generators and carry out production processes by hand
DHAKA – Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Industrial Development and Engineering Company (Bidec) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to convert conventional capacitor-ceiling fans in garment factories into brushless direct-current (BLDC) fans.
This comes as factories in several Bangladeshi manufacturing centres report acute gas supply problems – including shutdowns, lower output, the use of alternative fuels and manual workarounds.
