Bangladesh’s garment unions are pressing for urgent action as the legally required minimum wage review approaches, with groups warning that delays could leave it unchanged beyond December

DHAKA – Bangladesh’s garment worker trade unions and labour alliances have urged the government to immediately reconstitute the Minimum Wage Board, warning that delays could prevent a new wage structure from taking effect by the mandated December deadline.

The Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act of 2026 – published in April – shortened the statutory wage review cycle from five to three years to more regularly align with changes in cost of living, inflation and productivity.
