The new Textile Standards & Legislation guide marks its 10th edition with expanded regulatory coverage and brand new website

YORK – The 10th edition of the Textile Standards & Legislation guide has been published by MCL News & Media, which provides the global textile and apparel industry with an updated reference point for navigating the growing volume of voluntary standards, certification schemes and mandatory regulation.

The new 128-page printed edition will be distributed to visitors at the forthcoming Cascale event in Athens, as well as through partners including Messe Frankfurt and the European Outdoor Group. It is accompanied by the continually updated digital platform, www.textilestandards.com, designed to give users access to primary information as requirements and policy developments evolve.

For brands, retailers, manufacturers and sourcing teams, the challenge is no longer simply identifying which standards exist. Increasingly, they must understand how voluntary initiatives sit alongside legal duties covering subjects such as chemicals, environmental claims, product information, due diligence, waste, circularity and labour conditions.

The guide aims to make that task more manageable by bringing together concise summaries of more than 80 textile-related standards and legislative frameworks. It explains their relevance to the sector, puts requirements into context and directs readers to the original sources for further research.

The online resource also provides filters, 24/7 access and live updates on regulatory changes.

Coverage spans environmental, social and product-related issues, including widely used voluntary certification systems that require testing and certification requirements across textile raw materials, intermediate products and finished articles. It also tracks legal and regulatory developments in key markets, from EU measures to US frameworks, and recent regulatory developments in China.

The resource is intended as a practical starting point rather than a substitute for specialist legal or technical advice. Its value lies in helping companies quickly establish which standards, laws and guidance may apply to a material, product, market or claim — and then locate the authoritative source material needed for the next stage of compliance work.

With regulation becoming more detailed and interconnected, timely, credible information is increasingly important across product development, sourcing, sustainability and communications functions. The combination of a portable printed guide and a living digital database is designed to meet both needs: an accessible industry reference for meetings and events, supported by an online resource that can reflect changes as they happen.

The 10th edition of Textile Standards & Legislation underlines the guide’s continuing role as an independent navigation tool for an industry facing a more complex compliance landscape than ever before.
