EU-backed MELANGE initiative will test fibre-stage colouration and circular design approaches for Europe’s interior textiles sector

ESPOO — Aalto University is leading a €4 million ($4.7m) Horizon Europe project designed to move textile colour decisions to the fibre stage, with a stated aim of cutting water and chemical use by up to 50%.

The MELANGE project, which will run until 31st July 2029, focuses on interior textiles, using fibre-stage technologies such as spin, dope and solution dyeing as alternatives to finishing-stage colouration.
