Environmental NGO calls for faster adoption of next-generation fibres as it updates its annual hot button report

VANCOUVER — The global man-made cellulosic fibre (MMCF) sector is in flux as volatile conventional feedstock supply and oversupply concerns reshape investment, according to Canopy’s 2026 Hot Button Progress Report.

The environmental non-profit said 53% of global MMCF capacity was now represented by 'green shirt'-rated producers, down one percentage point from 2025. However, 22 of the 28 producers assessed achieved green shirt status, lifting the share of qualifying companies to 79%, from 70% last year.
