Accord issues statement on fatal factory blast

International Accord says a preliminary assessment points to a gas-related blast at Pretty Composite Textiles in Bangladesh

ASHULIA — At least nine people have died following a gas cylinder explosion and fire at a Bangladesh garment factory, according to the International Accord for Health and Safety in the Textile and Garment Industry.

The incident at Pretty Composite Textiles Ltd in Ashulia, Savar, also injured an undisclosed number of people. The fire damaged several vehicles parked in an adjacent liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle area.
