Meta backs MacroCycle rPET plant

Meta will buy certificates tied to MacroCycle’s planned US recycled PET output, backing a new financing route for textile and packaging recycling capacity

An EAC is not normally a carbon offset: it assigns the environmental attributes associated with a defined quantity of recycled, lower-carbon material.

CAMBRIDGE – Meta has agreed to buy environmental attribute certificates (EACs) associated with recycled PET produced by MacroCycle Technologies’ planned first commercial facility in the south-eastern US.

The arrangement illustrates a developing financing model for lower-carbon materials, in which an end user pays for verified environmental attributes rather than necessarily purchasing the physical product.
