Researchers say orange and pineapple peel extracts can remove colour from dyed cotton, offering potential alternatives to conventional chemicals

DHAKA — Researchers at Bangladesh University of Textiles have demonstrated that fruit peel extracts can replace conventional colour-removing agents in laboratory discharge printing trials on cotton.

The study, published in Discover Chemistry, tested orange and pineapple peel extracts on knitted cotton dyed with carmine and navy reactive dyes. Pineapple peel extract reduced colour strength by 95.6% on carmine-dyed fabric, slightly exceeding two conventional agents.
