Pakistan cotton sector faces yield and closure crisis

RAHIM YAR KHAN – Pakistan’s cotton and textile sector is facing one of its most severe crises, with adverse weather threatening final crop yields and hundreds of ginning and spinning facilities reportedly closed.

Cotton arrivals at ginning factories reached 4.081 million bales by 15th October, up 8% year on year, according to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA). Punjab supplied 1.638 million bales, up 8%, while Sindh recorded 2.443 million bales, up 7%.
