BRUSSELS – European Union (EU) states France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Austria are calling for textile waste to be covered by the Basel Convention to restrict exports to developing countries.
They urged the EU Environment Council to support classifying textile waste in the same way as other problematic waste streams, such as plastics and e-waste, to make prior notification and consent obligatory for exports.
