Euratex urges technical textile clarity in PFAS ban

Textile and clothing industry body Euratex is calling on the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to conduct a sector-specific evaluation of technical textiles in the ongoing universal PFAS restriction process, which proposes a ban on the manufacture, import and use of ‘forever chemicals’ in the EU.

ECHA recently added eight new sectors to its background document but decided against separate evaluations for each. However, Euratex has warned this one-size-fits-all approach risks overlooking the unique functions and uses of technical textiles, leading to unrealistic restrictions for many industrial applications.
