New study reveals that that women are predominantly employed in lower-paid sewing and quality control roles
PARIS - Women working in Turkey's textile and apparel sector are concentrated in lower-paid production roles while men dominate higher-paid technical and supervisory positions – driving a gender pay gap of up to 17.4%, according to new research from Global Fashion Agenda (GFA).
The insights paper, 'Unpacking Pay Equity in Fashion: Türkiye', launched at the ongoing OECD Forum in Paris, draws on a survey of 43 Turkish manufacturers, interviews with trade unions and worker associations, and data from the Social & Labor Convergence Program (SLCP), Fair Labor Association (FLA) and Anker Research Institute.
