Study finds crude bacterial enzymes removed up to 99.9% of selected textile dyes under laboratory conditions
BAHIR DAR — Researchers at the University of Gondar in Ethiopia say they have isolated bacteria from contaminated textile wastewater that produced enzymes capable of removing colour from three dyes in laboratory tests.
The peer-reviewed study, published in the PLOS ONE journal, screened wastewater collected from dyeing, printing, mixing and drainage points at the Bahir Dar Textile Factory in Ethiopia.
