Upcoming textile trade regulations risk inflating costs and disrupting Kenya’s secondhand clothing sector, report says
STOCKHOLM – A new report warns that future Basel Convention rules treating reusable secondhand clothing as waste could increase costs, delay shipments and threaten livelihoods in Kenya’s used textiles sector.
The study, Implications for the Kenyan Mitumba Market from Introduction of Basel Convention Rules in Trade of Secondhand Clothing, is written by the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and commissioned by Humana.
