Nine years of farm data show lower inputs and improved incomes, but crop protection gains remain inconsistent
GENEVA — Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) says most farmers reduce synthetic fertiliser and pesticide use after joining its programme, but environmental improvements varied across farming contexts.
Its first Global Impact Report in five years, which draws on nine years of field-level data, BCI says 69% of farmers reduced synthetic nitrogen use per kilogram of cotton, while 65% cut synthetic pesticide use per hectare since joining the programme.
