Cone Denim to exit Chinese operations in strategic transformation

Cone Denim has announced a strategic transformation that includes exiting its Chinese manufacturing operations by the end of the year.

Following a review of its manufacturing footprint and customer sourcing needs, the company will focus on its Mexico platform, operating mills in Parras and Yecapixtla.

New Jersey bans intentionally added PFAS in most clothing

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has signed a law that prohibits the sale, manufacture and distribution of most apparel containing intentionally added PFAS.

Violations fall under New Jersey’s Protecting Against Forever Chemicals Act and may result in administrative orders, civil action or penalties of $1,000 to $20,000 per violation.

Indonesia strengthens controls on textile imports

Indonesia’s Ministry of Industry has strengthened controls on textile imports, saying the measures balance domestic supply and demand while protecting local manufacturers.

Ministry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif said the policy is not intended to hinder business but to ensure imported volumes match actual domestic market needs.

Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein owner reports sales drop

G-III Apparel Group, owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, has reported a 10% decline in sales in its Q2 financial results.

Net sales declined to $554.1 million, while gross profit was broadly flat at $250.4 million.

Hugo Boss ends shares buyback programme amid Frasers Group’s holdings increase attempt

Hugo Boss has announced the termination of its recently launched share buyback programme, citing Frasers Group’s intention to increase its holding in the company beyond 50%.

The programme will end on 8th September, after the German fashion retailer repurchased 124,044 shares for approximately €4.8 million ($5.6m) between 24 August and 1 September 2026. The full €200 million ($232m) programme had been expected to run into 2027.

Kontoor Brands aims to lift Helly Hansen revenue above $1.1 billion by 2030, from pro-forma 2025 sales of $675 million.

The owner of Wrangler and Helly Hansen expects about 10% annual revenue growth, gross margins in the mid-to-high 50% range and operating margins in the mid-teens.

Cotton surplus faces climate risks

International Cotton Advisory Committee forecasts global cotton production of 26.2 million tonnes in 2026/27, marginally above projected consumption of 25.9 million tonnes.

However, the committee said weather volatility and pest pressure could erode the 300,000-tonne surplus as the season progresses.

Textile Exchange has released guidance and tools intended to help organisations meet the human rights and livelihoods requirements of its forthcoming Materials Matter Standard.
