HONG KONG – Apparel retailer Gap Inc., has partnered with the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA) to develop technological solutions that can assist Gap in implementing circular practices within its supply chain.

Two project scopes have been identified, focusing on new methods to remove Spandex from fabrics for re-use and alternatives for denim decolourisation, a process typically chemical-intensive and thus impactful on the environment.

The duo has set a two year timeframe on identifying and nurturing innovations to this end. Subsequent developments deemed commercially viable will then be open for licensing to industry peers.
