STUTTGART - The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification organisation achieved its highest ever growth rate last year when its certified facilities grew by 35 per cent, from 5,760 to 7,765.
The increase reported by the non-profit, which aims to offer a voluntary global standard for the production of organic textiles, means that it now covers three million workers in 70 countries.
GOTS managing director Claudia Kersten said: "The enormous growth shows that GOTS successfully serves as sustainable solution from certified organic fibre to finished product. With more and more GOTS certified operations and products we altogether substantially contribute to sustainable development.”
