SAN FRANCISCO – Workers’ rights organisation Remake has called on fashion brands to go beyond social media support and one-time donations to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement by standing with those in their supply chains who may feel overlooked.

Remake notes how companies including Gap, Kohl’s and URBN – which owns Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie – which have quite rightly publicised their support for the BLM movement, but are yet to publicly commit to paying suppliers for the goods they’ve produced since coronavirus drew business to a pause.

The organisation is using this opportunity to kickstart a ‘No New Clothes’ campaign, challenging the public to stop buying apparel for 90 days. “In the end, we the people hold power over brands and it is our purchases that will goad brands to do right by people and our planet,” it says.
