PHNOM PENH – The Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) has urged the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and those supporting its Call to Action to throw down their support for postponing Cambodia’s partial suspension from the European Union’s Everything But Arms (EBA) agreement until August 2021.

Unless postponed, Cambodia will lose out on trade benefits to the sum of around US$1 billion, further crippling the country’s apparel factories and workers at a time when COVID-19 has caused an immense fracture to the industry.

“GMAC explained to the ILO that this second blow would lead to even more factory closures, displaced workers, and increase poverty in Cambodia,” the organisation has said.
