AMSTERDAM – A consortium of companies spanning the fashion supply chain have partnered for a project that will demonstrate the plausibility of creating a circular economy around textiles.

The ‘New Cotton Project’ convenes an innovative textile recycler, yarn and fabric producers, big-name brands, sorting facilities, industry organisations and academics from across Europe in an EU-funded effort to close the loop of apparel manufacture.

Petri Alava, CEO of Infinited Fiber Company – whose patented method of yielding virgin-grade cellulose is key to the project’s ambition – said: “We are very excited and proud to lead this project, which is breaking new ground when it comes to making circularity in the textile industry a reality. The enthusiasm and commitment with which the entire consortium has come together to work towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for fashion is truly inspiring.”
