PHNOM PENH - Cambodia's apparel exports dropped by nine per cent amidst cancelled and reduced orders because of the pandemic last year when more than 70,000 garment workers lost their jobs, according to official figures.

The Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia's export data revealed the size of the drop in orders while the job loss figures were released earlier this month by the country's Labour Ministry.

However, Khun Tharo, programme manager at labour rights group Central, estimated that the total number of garment workers to lose their jobs was “much higher” than the official numbers.
