ARLINGTON – Seasonal fluctuations in ‘Monthly Order Variability’(MOV) can put a strain on buyer-supplier relationships and lead to practices that have been identified as having a high impact on businesses and their sustainability efforts, according to a new report from the Better Buying Institute (BBI).

The institute notes that pressures and stress related to seasonal demand for certain types of fashion products combined with poor and inaccurate forecasting by buyers are pushing risks onto suppliers and forcing them to ask their workers for increased overtime and in some cases unauthorised hiring and firing of casual or temporary labour.
