ZURICH – Oeko-Tex is adding a new module to its STeP environmental standard in a bid to allow production facilities to measure and report their carbon emissions and water use at the facility level, by each processing step, or by kilogram of textile material.

Set to be launched at the beginning of 2022, Oeko-Tex says the new module is being added in response to an anticipated need for brands and retailers to report carbon emissions and water use across various production stages. “It will likely be a standard requirement of every textile-related business in the future,” Michael Möller, from the Oeko-Tex linked Hohenstein testing institute told Ecotextile News.
