LEEDS - Up to 17,847 tonnes of microfibres are being released into water streams from the washing of garments every year in the UK alone, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of Leeds carried out tests which suggested the UK's annual microfibre release was between 6,860 and 17,847 tonnes.
