WASHINGTON DC - Three US senators have written to Chinese ultra-fast fashion giant Shein to express concern over the possible use of forced labour cotton from China's Xinjiang region in its products.
Senators Bill Cassidy, Elizabeth Warren and Sheldon Whitehouse fear that US consumers could inadvertently be buying Shein products containing cotton made with forced labour.
They are concerned that the Chinese retailer's direct to consumer business model circumvents import restrictions such as the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) which bans goods from Xinjiang on the presumption they are made with forced labour.
