ACCRA - Extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles must be globally accountable if they are to tackle the environmental impact of fashion waste on developing countries, according to a new report.

The Ghana-based Or Foundation is behind the 'Stop Waste Colonialism' report which says the global secondhand clothing trade currently circulates over 4.5 million metric tons of secondhand clothing annually.

"These items are collected primarily from across the EU, North America and parts of Asia and sent to countries primarily across the continents of Africa and Central and South America," it says.
