BRUSSELS - The Euratex textile industry trade body has issued a warning after members of the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly to back the European Union's (EU) Strategy for Sustainable and Circular Textiles and to take its proposals even further.

Some 600 MEPs backed the strategy - with 17 against and 16 abstentions - which calls for textile products sold in the EU to be more durable, easier to reuse, repair and recycle, as well as produced with respect for human rights and the environment.

They also backed a European Parliament report suggesting further measures aimed at putting an end to fast fashion, including a ban on the destruction of unsold and returned textile products.
