DRESDEN - Researchers in Germany and Denmark have developed systems that use artificial intelligence, algorithms and advanced colour spectrum analysers to potentially check the suitability of discarded clothing and textiles for recycling.

A team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems in Dresden has created an ultra-compact, near-infrared spectrometer - a device that studies the absorption and emission of light - which is said to able to identify and analyse the raw material composition of both pure and blended fabrics.
