SYDNEY – The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) insists that its new Australian Wool Sustainability Scheme (AWSS) standard will raise the bar on animal welfare despite the concerns of campaigners.
AWSS, which will replace SustainaWOOL from July, features two accreditation categories, one also called SustainaWOOL in which mulesing is not allowed, and the other, ResponsiWOOL, under which the practice is allowed with pain relief.
