Trade organisations call for recycling sector support

The European Recycling Industries' Confederation (EuRIC) and the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) have warned that the European Union’s mandatory extended producer responsibility scheme for textiles does not address the post-consumer recycling sector’s immediate crisis.

Acknowledging that the introduction of EPR schemes across the EU was essential in the long-term to safeguarding competition in the single market and to incentivising much-needed investments in collection, sorting and recycling infrastructure for post-consumer textiles, EuRIC and FEAD, insisted that more support was required for the recycling sector during the transition period.
