Traceability and synthetic rivalry dominated the final day of Bremen Cotton Conference

Concerns were raised that sustainable textile demand was now dominated by synthetics.

BREMEN – The two-day International Cotton Conference Bremen 2026 concluded on Thursday with an agenda that spanned supply chain traceability, cotton growing challenges, chemicals in textiles and the ongoing competitive ‘threat’ from fossil-based synthetic fibres.

Traceability took centre stage on day two, with a dedicated session hosted by Tobias Meier of Fairtrade. Pramod Sonune, senior director of technology at CottonConnect, presented the organisation's TraceBale system, which tracks cotton from seed and bale through yarn, fabric and finished goods to end product, incorporating first, second and third-party audits to deliver farm-group-level transparency across the value chain.
