NINGBO – Tough new environmental legislation in China which came in to force on 1st January looks like it could be the reason behind the closure of a huge textile bleaching and dyeing complex in the seaport city of Ningbo in the northeast of Zhejiang province. The complex, which included 39 separate enterprises and operated on a 1,200 acre site on the sprawling Hangzhou Bay New Zone, officially shut down on 31st January 2014 – exactly one day before the new environmental law came into effect. Over 5,000 employees worked at the textile dyeing and finishing site.
