DHAKA - More than 84 per cent of garment factories inspected by the Bangladesh Accord on Fire and Building Safety have not yet had fire alarm and smoke detectors satisfactorily installed and verified.

And nearly 70 per cent of factories have not yet installed fire suppression equipment such as fire hoses, standpipes and sprinkler systems, according to the Accord's new quarterly report.

It reveals that 1,618 garment factories have so far been inspected but that 1,361 (84.1 per cent) lacked adequate fire alarms and detectors, while 1,124 (69.5 per cent) lacked verified suppression equipment.
