TOKYO – Zipper manufacturer YKK has become the latest signatory to the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. It joins more than 100 firms in making this commitment, which aligns industry stakeholders in limiting the world’s temperature increase to less than 2°C above pre-industrial levels.

YKK has an assortment of zippers made from alternative materials including organic cotton, sugarcane molasses and most recently marine plastic waste, intercepted on the coastline of Sri Lanka.

Takashi Tsukumo, vice president, YKK Corporation Global Marketing Group, says the upcycling of such materials emits less CO2 than zippers produced using virgin polyester.
