WASHINGTON DC - Five major US apparel industry organisations have put out a joint statement addressing allegations of forced labour involving Uyghuy Muslim detainees in China’s Xinjiang province.
The US Fashion Industry Association, American Apparel & Footwear Association, National Retail Federation, Retail Industry Leaders Association and Footwear Distributors & Retailer Association said the situation was unprecedented in modern global supply chains.
They urged the US government to form a multi-stakeholder working group to find constructive solutions that target "bad actors" and protect workers' rights and the integrity of global supply chains.
