CASTLEFORD - Fashion brand Burberry has retooled its trench coat factory, in Castleford, West Yorkshire, to make non-surgical gowns and masks for patients to support those hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The company is also to supply 100,000 surgical masks to NHS staff and has pledged funding to help research into the development of a single-dose vaccine for the coronavirus at the University of Oxford where human trials are due to begin next month.

Burberry said it aims to leverage its global supply chain to help meet the most immediate medical and community needs, while supporting the development of a longer-term solution to the global pandemic.
