NEW SOUTH WALES – The ability for Australian wool growers to define wool treated by freeze branding as ‘non-mulesed’ is cause for frustration amongst stakeholders in the country, which believe the loophole is making a mockery both of the National Wool Declaration (NWD) and governing body AWEX.
“The truth in labelling is paramount to building trust in the wool we are selling,” said Jonathan Lillie, the managing director of wool brokerage, Fox and Lillie Rural. "By not following truth in labelling and allowing the market to make up its own mind about whether any new procedure or process adheres to their company's policy direction they are deceiving the entire wool supply chain.”
