WASHINGTON – Child and workers' rights non-profit GoodWeave International has surveyed carpet, home textile and garment workers in both India and Nepal on the extent to which COVID-19 has impacted their livelihoods, and warns that “extreme hardships” amongst these populations risk a spike in child, forced or bonded labour.
The US-headquartered NGO has subsequently outlined recommendations for brands, local organisations and governments to consider if they’re to protect these communities at this critical time.
